The Golden Kola

(pic coming soon)

This was the kind donation of The Don and The Big D.

The parents recently went on a pilgrimage of their own, hiking the mountains of Peru, and they brought back some of that famous Incan gold for me. Morbidly, this is also a gold you pour down your throat. Come to think of it, there are a bunch of connotations about gold liquid, obvious and obscure, and pretty much none of them are good. Too bad it's specifically part of the Inca Kola advertising scheme.

Inca Kola is something of a play on words, apparently, as it means "king and queen" in quechua. Supposedly it's the drink of Peru, but its origins are about as Peruvian as Pizarro, since it was founded by an English immigrant. Additionally, it sort of sold out to Coke in 1999. Confusingly, its newly sprung-up competitors use many of the same traits that make Inca Kola unique, like the gold motif and the odd spelling of "cola."

As you can see, it's a bright yellow in the bottle and thankfully carbonated. It smells very strongly of bubblegum, something like Ramune. The taste is about the same, with a rather strong aftertaste that isn't entirely pleasant. It has "cafeina" in it, but sadly no information on how much.

Volume: 500mL. Caffeine content: Not available.
